Should I use a service account for a connector?

Choose granular permissions for connectors

We recommend using a service account (where possible) when connecting apps. A service account is an account that is not tied to a particular employee, such as ITAdminAccount@acme.co. Using this type of account allows for independence between the employee who authorizes the app and Productiv’s access.

There are two reasons for using a service account, if possible.

  1. You can choose granular permissions for Productiv access, rather than providing all of the permissions of an employee’s authorizing account.
  2. Prevent disruption of data if the employee’s permissions are changed, or if the employee leaves the company.

Check each app’s Setup Guide for specific requirements for the authorizing account to use for the connector.
