This article highlights the differences between Estimated Provisioned Users and Estimated Total Users. It also details where these numbers are derived.
- Provisioned Licenses (Estimated)
- Estimated Total Users
- Where Does the Estimate for Provisioned Users Come From?
Provisioned Licenses (Estimated)
If you see estimated provision licenses when looking at the activity trend for an application, this means:
- The Productiv system was not able to collect provisioning data for the specific date you are looking at. This may happen when connectors are temporarily down. It mainly occurs when a user first sets up a connector.
- For any dates before connecting the app, you will see a dotted line on the activity trend line (a nuanced UX treatment in the software). If you hover over the star on the number, you will see help text showing you why they are “estimated." That number does not represent the actual provisioned users for that date, since Productiv was not able to fetch that data. Instead, the provisioning numbers are collected for the nearest available date in the future.
Estimated Total Users
If you see estimated total users when looking at the activity trend for an application, this means:
- The Productiv software was not able to collect provisioned users or user assignments for this application (generally due to API limitations). As a result, for the total user set, we use the metric of users who have performed any activity in the last 120 days.
- The dotted line in the trend lines is also visually presented differently for apps with SSO access. Please note it doesn't include deactivated users.
Where Does the Estimate for Provisioned Users Come From?
This is dependent on a few variables:
- If we directly connect to the app (pulling data from the Engagement connector), and we can get the provisioned users, we get this directly from the connector.
- If we directly connect to the app but can't get the provisioned users, the "estimated users" count is from users who have engaged in the last 120 days.
- If the app is behind Okta or OneLogin, we use the # of users assigned to the application in the SSO providers.
- If the app is behind another SSO provider, the "estimated users" count consists of
anyone who has logged in via SSO in the last 120 days.
