Putting application use in context
Connecting to the org chart Platform connector will pull in your organization’s user demographic data. Depending on your connected data source this can include information such as: your user list, team names, locations, and even managers, into Productiv. This data enables features like team-views of login activity, SaaS spend and feature level usage, just to name a few.
In this article we’ll provide answers to the following questions:
- Why connect org chart data?
- Which org chart data solutions integrate?
- How to connect org chart data?
- What are the alternatives to connecting?
- What happens once connected?
- How long does it take?
- What if I don’t have the right permissions?
Why connect org chart data with Productiv?
Org chart data is just one of 5 types of platform connectors to be configured for Productiv. Connecting to your org chart data will pull in the list of users, their team names, location, and manager (if available).
Which org chart solutions integrate with Productiv?
Connectors of all kinds are being added to the Productiv portfolio on a regular basis. Org chart connectors are available for Workday, OneLogin, Okta, Azure Active Directory, or Google Workspace.
How to connect org chart data with Productiv?
The org chart connector requires Read-only Admin* access in the source system to configure. (*It’s worth noting that the principle of ‘least privilege’ is being applied, which should keep your security team happy and you compliant).
NOTE: Before you get started, we recommend using service accounts whenever your company’s policies allow.
Ideally, set these service accounts with a long-term expiration on the credential. Doing this in advance not only makes the setup process swift, it will also help ensure Productiv always has the most up-to-date insights without you having to worry about account turnover or expiring credentials.

What are the alternatives to connecting org chart data?
Besides connecting your org chart data, it’s possible to upload a .csv file of the org chart data instead. For the most up-to-date information and ease of maintenance, we recommend using an org chart connector whenever possible.
What happens once connected?
Once org chart data is connected, what happens next depends on whether this is the first time connecting, or an update of data, regardless of the source.
- For those instances that were never connected/uploaded before, the result is a backfill of the data.
- This first-time backfill goes back 30 days and triggers a data reaggregation across the apps in your portfolio. The results will be visible in a few days.
-
IMPORTANT NOTE: Except for the first-time time upload of the org chart data, any newly uploaded data will NOT generate a reaggregation of the data and will only apply to app data from that point forward.
- For those instances when updating data, the new org chart data is applied as of the date uploaded.
- New org chart data will be visible in Productiv when the "as-of-date" for the date picker reaches the same date (typically data is visible a few days after uploading).
- Historical app data will remain tied to past org chart data.
- In the special case that you need to upload historical HR data in the past, please contact support.
How long does it take?
It takes 5 minutes to set up. Once the org chart connector is authorized, data will begin syncing with your Productiv account. You will be prompted to keep the window open while the data from the source is synced with Productiv.
Once data is uploaded, it will take a few more minutes to map the required fields of information before clicking Done to complete the process.
What if I don’t have the right permissions?
If for some reason you don’t have the appropriate permissions for a particular
Org chart connector, you can invite a teammate to complete the integration by clicking the Invite a teammate button and entering their email address.
